Bark for a Cure (woof!)

This morning our little family packed up bright and early to go to Bark for a Cure.

Stella and I were participating in the walk with my grandma, my  cousin Kynleigh, and their dogs. My grandma was kind enough to supply Stella with plenty of pink gear.
The Race for the Cure seemed to be a huge success this morning. It is so amazing to see so many people coming out to support such a wonderful cause.  Congratulations to all the survivors, especially to my aunt Shelly Skansen Turner and my best friend Jennifer's mom, Jan Lawmaster. You an inspiration to us all. We love you <3

I hope everyone else has had a wonderful Saturday!

Lazy days

Why, hello again.

How was everyone's Easter weekend? Mine was pretty nice... and pretty lazy. Above are some pictures taken that day that I thought I would share. Sorry about the poor quality...I only had my phone. We ate A LOT. It was so rainy here that all I wanted to do was nap! This sort of came back to bite me when I was up late Sunday working on a term paper :/ Luckily, the paper was for a folk music class, so it was kind of fun. Plus, I have a husband who just happens to be pretty knowledgeable in that area, so I got lots of help from him.
I am realllllly starting to miss the sunshine. Especially because I just got two new pairs of sandals at Target, and with all this rain, I can't even wear them. Maybe tomorrow I will have some more luck.

PS: Don't forget to check out my etsy shop! New designs will be added later this week :) fromstellawithlove.etsy.com

A few fun things to share:

Our day after shoot by the amazing Ruth Eileen Photography was featured on Postcards and Pretties! Our engagement session was also featured on this site, which is adorable by the way. Please check it out!

I have a facebook page for From Stella With Love! Feel free to go like it, so I can get a username.

Tyler started his job this week. I think he is really going to like it. I can tell he is excited because he comes home with all of these cute little stories about his students :) I love that he is going to be able to share his passion with others on a daily basis. What more could anyone ask for, really?

A few less fun things:

I think I have caught a bug. I thought it was allergies, but Zyrtec let me down. Now I have resulted to copious amounts of DayQuil and Ibuprofen. I have a billion papers to write/school things to do. I CANNOT be sick!

My job hunt isn't going so well. If anyone is looking to hire someone with a sociology degree (especially if the job involves children or child advocacy) I would be greatly appreciative of any leads.

To end this post on a positive note, tonight I get to see two wonderful friends back to back AND I get to write a paper arguing for women's rights and Planned Parenthood (what? it sounds fun to me.)

Thanks for stopping by<3

etsy is up!

Hello, my wonderful friends. Remember last post when I mentioned the launch of my Etsy shop?? Well, it is up! I am so excited. Keep in mind, I am new to all of this, so I am beginning really modestly. I have started with a line of hair accessories, but I will be phasing in several more things along the way. ( Meaning, once we get out of the apartment and i have a suitable workspace!)

Ever since the wedding, I have missed so much having that creative outlet. For some reason, this is just really therapeutic for me. (not to mention so fun!) Anyway, feel free to heart my shop, and check back frequently for new material.

You can find it here----> FromStellaWithLove

Also, I have included a link on the left side of  my blog for your convenience! Let me know what you think!

one month!

As of today, I have been a Lee for one month. Time has never gone by so quickly. I was thinking about all the things that have been going on this last month and thought I would share a few of them with you.

This month:

1. We played in an aquarium
2. We played in Ikea (where we also bought LOTS of neat shelves and extra touches for the apartment)
3. Ty got a job teaching art.
4. We participated in a garage sale.
5. We have ALMOST finished Six Feet Under
6. I have started on my new Etsy accessory line (previews coming soon!)
7. I have thanked God every day for blessing me with such an amazing husband and best friend.

Best Husband

Warning: this post may contain a lot of cheese, so if this sort of thing makes your stomach churn you should proceed with caution.

5 Reasons I Love Ty Today (and everyday):

1. Wednesday he woke up with me at 6:30 and went with me to study at Arsaga's before I went to work even though he didn't have to be to work until 11. I am so selfish when it comes to sleep, but nope, not Ty.

2. He is the most maticulous person I have ever met. It is actually completely precious. He addressed a lot of our wedding invitations, and it took him FOREVER. If you were lucky enough to recieve one of the ones he addressed (as opposed to my scribbles), it probably looked more like a type writer than handwriting.

3. Vests. Ty is obsessed with vests. He owns... well, I probably should not reveal that. It's a little embarassing. (Hey, we all have our thing)

4. Pac Man. Guys, the other day I awoke from my nap to find Ty angrily cursing under his breath. (This is so unlike him... he is usually so passive) What was he doing? Yelling at the pac man monsters on the game he downloaded on his computer. Yep.

5. Thursday, he woke up early to make me breakfast before I went to work. (See #1)

6. "I think I can build it." I wish I had a dollar for everytime I heard that. When we are looking to buy something, or just looking for fun, Ty always wants to try to make it himself instead. This is great when the thing is small (like a cake topper)... not so great when the thing is big (like shelves). Honey, we live in a small apartment and have only basic tools. Sometimes we hve to buy premade furniture. I'm sorry. I still love your DIY spirit.

sunday wrap up: a weekend in photographs

This weekend was lovely.

Friday night, we had a date night. We went to dinner at Taste of Thai. Yummy weather + yummy curry+ wonderful company= one amazing date.
date night 4/8/11

After dinner, we took a stroll around the square and went in a record shop. Then we decided to go for a sweet treat :) We love Bliss, and for the record, the s'mores cupcake (seen on the right) is by far the best I have ever had.

Saturday Ty had to work all day. I helped my mom out with a garage sale and spent some of the morning on self-imposed baby duty... which was such a treat. I mean, just look at her!

When Ty got off work, we decided to take a bit of that hard earned garage sale money over to the wine bar. They had all the doors open because of the beautiful weather, so it was even more of an enjoyable atmosphere than normal!

I hope the rest of you had as nice of a weekend as I did! Now, unfortunately there is schoolwork to be done. Happy Sunday!

a home

Hello, everyone. It has been an exciting week for the Lees. We have found a house to rent! It may not seem like that big of an accomplishment, but let me tell you, after a load of dead ends it feels so nice to have a home. Our home. Our very first home. Not that I don't like our apartment. I do. Unfortunately, they have raised the rent, and it just isn't quite worth the price of living here any longer. Well, and there is also this.... I have lived here since November of 2009. Ty has been living in an apartment with his brothers. After we got married he of course moved in, but we have noticed lately that we still refer to this as "my apartment" and the other as "his apartment". I felt so terrible when I pointed this out. He immediately reassured me that this-my/our apartment DOES feel like home; it is just a bad habit we both have. This being said, to have a home that we move into together will be so much more ideal. Our house.

We have already started planning things even though we don't have to be out of the apartment until the end of May. There is a place for a dog pin, a veggie garden, a dark room, and a sewing space! Really, what more could we ask for? I will post pictures soon.

All of this begs the question: What are your favorite design blogs/sites/magazines, etc? I foresee myself being in decorating mode until at least the end of the summer.

tv addicts

I have recently noticed that since Ty and I have been together, we have gone through A LOT of TV series, most of which have been TV shows that air or have aired on HBO or Showtime. Some of our favorites are Weeds, Dexter, Flight of the Choncords, and True Blood. We also have a major thing for Arrested Development and Northern Exposure, but that is for another post. For two people who don't even have basic cable, the last year really has been characterized by a lot of TV! Recently, our obsession has been Six Feet Under. If you haven't seen this show, I highly recommend it. Allen Ball is a genious. Oh, and we are in love with all things Anthony Michael Hall (except maybe that Gamer movie... don't know what that was all about). My favorite characters are Ruth and David. Anyway, this show is such a perfect blend of dry and dark humor and raw emotion. Watch it... I know you'd love it (You've Got Mail reference anyone? Jennifer?)

I can't wait until Ty gets off work tonight, so we can cuddle up on the couch with the puppies and watch Season 4, Episode 2. What TV shows are you guys into right now? We are going to need some recommendations after this.

facelift!

Hello my lovely friends. As you can probably see, "From Stella With Love" has gotten a facelift... I am keeping all the old posts, should anyone get the urge to travel back in time. The new blog will chronicle Ty and I's lives as we begin our journey together. I have a few plans for the blog, but mostly I am just excited to see where it takes me. I hope you will join!

2 weeks ago today, i got married.

March 18, 2011 I married my best friend Ty.
(photos by rutheileenphotography)
The day of the wedding was so fun. We started bright and early at my bridal brunch at 9:30. It was hosted by some of my bridesmaids' mothers at the Shank house. It was so perfect and special to have it at a home where I spent such a large portion of my childhood. Places become meaningful based on the memories you have had there, and now I get to add kicking off my wedding day to the reasons why that home is so precious to me.

The rest of the day was kind of hectic. We decorated the reception venue and rushed home to gather up everything we needed. It was so nice having all my bridesmaids together at the church for so long that afternoon. It helped me stay calm. I remember a lot of laughter. Also, I loved that everyone pitched in to help everyone else get ready. Most details of my wedding were DIY/homemade, so it would have felt wrong to hire people for hair and make-up. Plus, now we have those memories... (there I go again).

Before the wedding I remember waiting with my dad alone in the church hallway. Words cannot describe the way we both felt... So happy, but also I think for him it was quite bittersweet. I didn't know if I would cry, but just as Moon River started to play and I stepped through those chapel doors to start walking down the aisle, I burst into tears. My future was before me, and he had never looked better.

The ceremony was perfect. We wrote our own vowes, and poor Ty got so choked up trying to get through his. He also played me two songs. The first was "All I Want Is You" by Barry Louis Polisar (you may remember it from Juno) and the second was a song he wrote for me. I was so surprised because while Ty is extremely talented, he NEVER writes his own songs. It was an incredible moment.
